Today marks the 1 month mark that we have been living here and I can't believe it! We have been busy getting settled and learning our way around with all that is new to us!
We finally received our TV, internet, and phone a week ago...just took a whole 3 weeks, but who is counting!! Our sea shipment is FINALLY arriving tomorrow...only been 6 weeks since they packed us up in Vernon Hills. So, we are both hoping that after this weekend we will "officially" be settled!!
More of an update on us...
Chris has been in Amsterdam this week for work meetings and I think has even had a chance to enjoy the area! He is slowly but surely not working AS much and trying to leave the office at a decent time...still not getting caught in evening rush hour, so you can see he's still leaving pretty late!! He does feel a LOT more comfortable and caught up on the processes here since when he first started!
I had my first day of "supply teaching" last week and also did a few days this week. It has been a good transition, similar to the US curriculum, but there are also MANY differences! I'm looking forward to all the opportunites that I will have in the schools here and am hoping to be getting lots of jobs, so that I can be working every day!
Here are a few things I wanted to share about my first days in the London schools...
*erasers are called "rubbers" (seriously, how can you keep a straight face when a student asks for a rubber)
*band-aids are called "plasters"
*bathroom is called "toilet" or "loo"
*recess is called "play-time" or "break"
*the students call me "Miss" and like every 5 seconds too..."Miss, can I use the toilet?", Miss, are you from America?", Miss, did you go to Michael Jackson's funeral?", Miss, are you friends with Paris Hilton?", Miss, do you know Obama?", Miss, do you think Obama has a MacDonald's in his house?"...oh it's just too funny!!!
*the other thing is, the students have a difficult time saying Westforth....so, if they aren't calling me "Miss", they call me "Mrs. West, Mrs. Worth, Mrs. Forth, Mrs. Ford, Mrs. W"
