Ski Trip in Austria

We went on a ski trip with our friends, Tommy and Claudia, to the Austrian Alps. We flew into Munich, Germany and then had to take three trains to get to the Zillertal valley in Mayrhofen, Austria which took a little over three hours.

It was a great five days, even though the skiing was pretty rough for us "rookies", it was a great overall experience that will NEVER compare to a ski resort in Wisconsin!

On our first train leaving the Munich airport heading to Munich city center.

On our 2nd train ride from Munich to Jenbach...

we got some drinks and snacks for our ride!

Already seeing the mountains!!

From Jenback to Mayrhofen...this was our 3rd train!!

We made it to Mayrhofen...time to find our chalet!

This was the cafe that we had to check-in at before they drove us into the Zillertal valley where we were staying.

The view from the cafe while we were waiting..

Here was our little chalet...it was a perfect location, a nice 5 minute walk to the gondala we took up to the slopes!
The Ahornbahn cable car, right in our backyard, has gondalas that can take up to 160 people-the biggest in Austria!

all around the Zillertal valley

We walked around the first day we were there and checked everything out...found the Apres Ski bar!

We then went to go get our lift tickets and ski equipment!!

Also, checked out a map of the mountains and slopes...

Our first night in the chalet we had a fire and had some wine! It was very relaxing!!

Okay, maybe Tommy was drinking some whiskey and looking very sophisticated!

{1st day on the slopes}

I look happy here, however my first day on the slopes was a little crazy and a bit frustrating...my boots were 2 different sizes and since the ski rental place only used 1 boot to size each ski binding, one of my skis kept falling off...yep, as I was going down the steepest mountain too (not to mention I still had my "sea legs" because I hadn't skied in 2 years AND have never skied on a mountain of this SIZE)!! It was not a good first day!!

I finally made it down my first red run, it was not easy...thank goodness Chris was with me!!

After a lunch and bit of "liquid courage", I'm ready to go again...but to an easier blue run!!

Since our 1st day on the slopes started out a bit rough, I think we were all ready to go-out and have some fun!!

If you are wondering what is inside the Ice Bar...here's what you got!!

We are in, amongst the Apres Ski crowds (most of them have been partying since 4pm)!!

There were a lot of crazy people dressed up in animal costumes and we just had to have a picture with the tiger!

It turned out to be a great night...I think we all had a little TOO much fun and thought we were back in college!

{2nd day on the slopes}

Well only Chris was brave enough to venture out to the slopes...the rest of us were still hurting from our night-out and didn't think skiing down a HUGE mountain would help!!

Chris went up to another mountain range and found the White Lounge with igloos!!

On his way down, when he realized he was hurting too, there was so much fog that his visibility wasn't so great and I think he even got a little nervous he wasn't going to make it down!!

Claudia and I found Chris asleep out back...I think he pushed himself a little too much!!

{3rd and last day on the slopes}

After taking the day before off, we thought I should start off on an easy run!

It snowed the WHOLE day!!

On the chair lift on our way up to the top, the visibility just kept getting worse!! Uh-oh!!

It started to get really hard to see so we thought we should stop off for some lunch!!

And then we were going down a red run and everyone agreed that I need to accomplish this before going home!! I did it, nice and slow, taking my time with wide turns!

Oh, there's Claudia...she didn't fall she just needed a break, it was getting harder and harder to ski because the snow was coming down so fast and there was snow banks everywhere!

At the top of the mountain right before our last run of the trip!

We stopped off for a drink before getting on the gondola and heading back down.

At the bottom of the mountain it was not snowing, but look at how crazy it looks where we just were!

{Last day of the trip}

We are back on the train and have three trains to go. I just love to get Chris sleeping on the trains...looks very familiar from our Brussels train ride!!

To Munich city center...

and then the airport!!
