"2009 Tony Award Winner of Best Musical"
Billy Elliot is an inspirational story about a boy's dream to realize his desire against the odds of the world he's growing up in. The story is set in the North East of England during the 1984/85 miner's strike, which is when Billy pursues his love of dance against his own family's disapproval.Elton John was at the very first showing of the story as a film and knew that the story could go to the stage as a musical! Elton John worked with the writer, Lee Hall, to create the lyrics to the songs and helped to produce a musical that was truly British (and it was)!!
